Seasonal Ceramics Shop opens at Yorkshire Artspace

Yorkshire Artspace ceramicists unite to transform Persistence Works gallery into shop.

Disrupted by Covid-19 but pressing on, the Seasonal Ceramics Shop will be open for three consecutive weekends during December and will feature a range of work from established artists as well as recent graduates from Yorkshire Artspace’s Starter Studio for Ceramicists.

Inspired by the ethos, 'Buy Handmade this Christmas', the aim of the shop is to help visitors find bespoke ceramic gifts to share during a holiday season when personal touches will be more important than ever.

It will also be a critical time for the artists involved, representing for many of them the first physical selling opportunity of a year that has been roadblocked by the pandemic. By self-isolating and shutting down to keep everyone safe, artists and makers have been hit hard by loss of income.

"We have all suffered financially as a result of coronavirus because exhibitions and fairs have been cancelled and galleries closed," said group member Penny Withers. "The exercise of coming together to plan and realise an event has provided much needed stimulation, affirmation of our individual practices and hopefully a financial boost."

The Seasonal Ceramics Shop will be open from 4-20 December on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am-6pm and Sundays from 11am-4pm. The shop will be socially distanced and card payments will be accepted.
