Anyone in Sheffield who is finding it hard to pay for the cost of living due to the effects of coronavirus can apply for a one-off grant from the Council.

Provided under the existing Local Assistance Scheme, Covid-19 Hardship Related Assistance can be accessed by people who are struggling to afford food and other essentials, for example because they can’t work or have had their working hours reduced.

Residents who are also “indirectly affected” – for example, because someone they rely on can’t support them due to coronavirus – can also apply.

The payment can be used to cover food, essential travel, utility bills, clothing, essential furniture, and in some cases rent and mortgage arrears. It can’t be used to pay off loans.

More details on how to apply can be found on the Council website, alongside information about how working people who receive benefits and are self-isolating can access a Test and Trace support payment.
