Walkley and Upperthorpe art trail

Philippa Willitts

Passing through Walkley and Upperthorpe is a joy at the moment, thanks to the Walkley and Upperthorpe art trail.

Funded by Sheffield City Council Economic Recovery Fund and inspired by the artwork of children from St Mary’s, Netherthorpe and Walkley schools, the art trail consists of 25 painted telecoms boxes, two wall murals and nine shop shutters in Upperthorpe and Walkley.

There's never any shortage of things to complain about, but a brightly coloured surprise round every corner can't fail to make you smile.

Zest commissioned the artworks by a range of artists. I've made it a personal mission to spot them all.

So it might be a dreary Monday, but brighten your day with these photos of Upperthorpe and Walkley public artworks – and maybe visit both areas of the city to appreciate them yourselves.
