People in Sheffield can now get a Covid test without symptoms

In line with national changes, rapid lateral flow tests can be ordered from pharmacies, test sites or online, collected from the English Institute of Sport (EISS), or taken in person at EISS.

People in Sheffield without Covid symptoms are now able to get regular tests after free asymptomatic testing was rolled out across England.

A press release from Sheffield City Council noted that supervised lateral flow device (LFD) tests are now being offered at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS) test site on Coleridge Road, with appointments available to book online Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Home testing kits can also be collected from EISS without an appointment and employers with fewer than ten staff can pick up kits on their behalf.

Kits can also be ordered online, or collected at pharmacies and Sheffield’s seven test sites at Sharrow, Darnall, Burngreave, Upperthorpe, Concord Sports Centre, Arbourthorne and Meadowhall shopping centre.

"Getting into the habit of twice-weekly rapid LFD testing means that we can keep each other safe and, alongside the vaccine, ensure we can continue to ease our way out of lockdown,” said Sheffield Public Health Consultant Susan Hird.

“I would also encourage people to download the Covid-19 NHS app so that as many people as possible can be contacted if they have been in contact with someone who has the virus.”

Home tests should be taken twice weekly, with results reported online or on the phone. Anyone who gets a positive result must book a PCR test within 48 hours by calling 119 or going online.

While less than one in 1,000 lateral flow tests will give a false positive, a negative result does not prove someone does not have Covid, so people should continue to follow ‘hands, face and space’ guidance.

Those who need to self-isolate due to a positive test could be eligible for financial support, via a Test and Trace support payment or the Local Assistance Scheme, which is administered by the Council.
