Cavendish Cancer Care Get creative for Cavendish Cancer Care

Sheffield cancer charity launches Sheffield ARTogether, a creative fundraising campaign for vital support and therapy services.

Sheffield AR Together Info post

Cavendish Cancer Care supports families in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire who are affected by a cancer diagnosis, including patients, carers, loved ones and children.

Despite seeing over 1,900 families in 2019, the charity only receives enough government funding to keep its doors open for two weeks a year. This means they rely almost entirely on the support and generosity of the public to keep their service running.

Cressida, 58, is one of the 1,900 people who benefitted from Cavendish services in 2019. After being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour “out of the blue”, Cressida came to Cavendish for therapy and support. “

Cavendish taught me coping techniques, which helped me get through my radiotherapy sessions without getting panicked or upset. One of the things I really appreciate about Cavendish is its connection to conventional healthcare - I’ve always felt safe there. You can put your trust in the therapists, because they take care of people with cancer every day. Cavendish have been a big part of helping me to keep going on my journey.”

Demand for the service is increasing and Cavendish are determined to be there for anybody affected by cancer in the region, but they can only do this with help from the public. £27 pays for an hour of therapy for someone struggling with the mental impact of cancer. By getting involved in this event, you can help local families get the support they deserve.

This September, Cavendish Cancer Care is introducing Sheffield ARTogether. An opportunity to get creative and give Sheffield the love it deserves. Throughout lockdown we have all had more time to appreciate our surroundings, so Cavendish wants to see what you love most about the city of Sheffield. All you have to do is:

  • Draw or paint your favourite place in Sheffield or your favourite thing to do in the city.
  • Photograph or scan your artwork, email it to CCC and your art will be part of something even bigger.
  • Head over to JustGiving and make your Sheffield ARTogether donation.

So gather up your best colouring pencils and get creative.
