Abbeydale Road: Gems from end to end

Abbeydale Road is a thriving community of independent traders, with new additions popping up all the time.

In our October issue, we featured the below independent traders on a page focusing on the area. To say an extra thank you for supporting Now Then, we thought we'd elaborate a little further on what they have to offer.

Nether Edge Herbarium

This emporium of medicinal herbs, vitamins and supplements has everything you need to keep your body and mind in tip-top shape. If it's your first visit, have a chat with one of their herbalists, who'll be able to advise on how herbal medicine could best work for you. They also stock natural and ethical skin, body and hair care products, including bespoke handmade products from local producers, along with healthy snacks and treats.

Wholesome and hearty is the order of the day

The Broadfield

The Broady, as it's affectionately known, is a much-loved mainstay of Abbeydale Road. Stocking a plentiful selection of ales, craft beers, whiskies and gins, this friendly pub offers a warm welcome to any who walk through its doors, including canine pals. Wholesome and hearty is the order of the day when it comes to their food menu, with special supper clubs and food weeks popping up throughout the year. It's also the perfect spot for Christmas celebrations. We highly recommend checking out their festive wreath-making workshops.

Nether Edge Pizza

This fine purveyor of pizza has been nestled snugly on Abbeydale Road since May 2018. Their wood-fired pizzas are a real treat and whether you're a meat-eater, veggie or vegan, their menu caters to all dietary requirements and tastes. We especially like the Nether Edge Veg. With eat-in, takeaway, collection and delivery options, plus a range of boozy and non-boozy beverages to augment your experience, you're sure to feel pleasantly full in no time.

Dead Donkey Bar

This laidback bar is a relatively new addition to the area but is already well known for its mega grilled cheese sandwiches, extensive craft beer offering and a whisky shelf which extends along the entire length of the bar. We kid you not. They also boast a burgeoning cocktail and wine menu. Pop in for lunch or stop by after work to wind down with your favourite tipple. If you need a little help deciding what that is, the folks behind the bar are knowledgeable and super friendly.

Frankly My Deer

This lovely space is home to a beautifully curated selection of gifts, homeware, art, jewellery, children's wear and preserves, all produced by Sheffield's best and brightest makers. Expect the quirky and quizzical as standard. Their greetings cards are always good for a giggle. They also offer slime workshops, pizza parties and craft evenings for big and small folks alike. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for news about upcoming events.

Meraki

This traditional Greek restaurant serves up a delicious variety of home-cooked dishes and its warm and welcoming atmosphere makes it ideal for enjoying a real taste of the Mediterranean. Friendly service and nice prices, with a menu to please meat-eaters and veggies alike. They also have a range of gluten-free options. Meraki is open until late all week and you can book a table online.
