You may remember Josephine Dellow from when we featured her illustrations on the Now Then App at the start of the year, or you may have seen her quirky colouring books and prints for sale in a variety of independent shops in Sheff. Well, from 2-8 December you'll be able to visit her in the Winter Gardens Pop-Up shop. She told us more.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your work as an artist.

I'm Josephine and I'm a Sheffield-based illustrator. My time is mostly split between running my online shop and illustrating for books, as well as murals and other projects that come my way. I previously worked for a greetings card publisher before taking my business full-time at the start of 2018 and it's been an amazing adventure so far.

Join in with something creative

You're taking on the Winter Gardens pop-up shop from 2-8 December. What will you be doing with the space?

I wanted to make the space lively and interactive - and take the opportunity to do some good for others by involving the community in some workshop activities.

Even though it will be great to have a physical shop for the week, my main hope is simply for people to come along, join in with something creative and leave feeling a little bit festive.

Tell us about the Let's Draw Sheffield project.

Let's Draw Sheffield is a free activity running throughout the week. I've illustrated a huge map to go on the wall and will be inviting visitors to draw and add their favourite place to it. After the event, the collaboration will be made into a print, which will be sold to raise money for a local charity, to be announced very soon.

Who else are you collaborating with at the pop-up shop?

I'm also collaborating with The Better Together Project. They are organising a festive get-together for people who are likely to be spending the holiday alone. I'm running a Christmas card project, where people can make and write a card for The Better Together Project to give to their guests. It's a unique opportunity for someone to send joy to a person they've never met.

What kind of workshops and activities will people be able to get involved in?

The Christmas Card Project and Let's Draw Sheffield will both be free, drop-in and running throughout the whole week. I am also running one ticketed workshop on Sunday 8 December, which is to create your own house portrait. It will be collage-based, so no drawing skills are needed, and I've received feedback before that it's a very relaxing activity.
