Comedy at Barnsley Civic: A Feast of Joviality

360 1553618517

Ten years have passed since Barnsley Civic reinvented their image as an arts centre and to mark their last decade of success they are bestowing on us a month of laughs. Packed to the rafters with comedic talent, April Fools' Comedy Festival returns for 2019 with a programme that celebrates the power of self-expression and what it means to be Northern.

The fun starts with Bilal Zafar on Wednesday 3 April at Zinc Bar. Described as 'witty and absorbing' (The Times), Zafar was nominated Best Newcomer at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has been ever-present over various platforms across the BBC. Keep a keen eye out for Carl Hutchinson, whose show 'I Know I Shouldn't Behave Like This...' talks the audience through the tumultuous journey of buying a house and becoming a parent with a refreshingly unique approach. Join Hutchinson on Saturday 13 April at The Electric Theatre, whose perfectly-crafted stories and witty observations will leave your sides aching.

Last Laugh Comedy Club earns a spot on this year's bill. Barnsley born Toby Foster (Phoenix Nights) presents a night of laughter, hosting some of the best comedians from the UK and the international circuit. The penultimate night of the festival, Last Laugh Comedy Club will round off proceedings with roars and bellyaches. Boasting a wide variety of comics, April Fools' promises to please anyone and everyone who takes a bite into this year's feast of joviality.

On a final note, since 2005 the Comedy Club 4 Kids has attracted the best-stand ups and sketch acts from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children and their families, and this year is no different. On Wednesday 17 April at The Civic, April Fools' have organised a day of child-friendly humour, providing families with an opportunity to experience the eccentric atmosphere of a comedy club free from any four-lettered words.
