The BBC has written about the British Asians who stood with striking miners in the 1980s, with a focus on Mukhtar Dar, a founding member of the Sheffield Asian Youth Movement who supported the strikers at Orgreave while also facing racism from them. The Asian campaigners saw parallels between the oppressions each group faced, with Dar explaining: "What you had was a convergence of all of these different struggles beyond the coal fields… We had no choice but to find common ground and come together." |
