Local musician and activist Roshan Lal has spoken to Foundations Earth about responding inclusively and effectively to planetary-scale problems and we republished the interview this week. It's a really thought-provoking piece, with Rosh telling James Lock: "If you do want to be part of the transformational change that we need to move past these crises, you need to really think about where you're putting your energy and your attention and your capabilities, and it's never going to be something you can do by yourself."
Politicians' attacks on Black and Brown people continue unabated and the country's current treatment of migrants shows yet again that Britain is a colonial nation. In her second piece for Now Then, Sayma Zaman writes: "The Bibby Stockholm is a direct product of the government’s willingness to endanger migrants and their increased determination to stoke anti-migrant sentiment ready for the next General Election."
Sensoria 2023 is nearly upon us, so Sam Gregory has picked five unmissable events from this year's line-up, including "the best concert film of all time" and an exhibition at Sheffield's iconic Moore Street Substation.

The Guardian reports how much financial trouble Sheffield Council could be in as it faces claims by thousands of allegedly underpaid women. Sue Wood from the GMB told Emine Sinmaz that "what we have uncovered in Sheffield is truly scandalous." Thousands of women may have been underpaid by up to £11,000 a year, the union claims. Birmingham City Council recently effectively declared bankruptcy, caused in part by an an estimated £760m equal pay liability. |

If you're sick of the underfunding of South Yorkshire's buses, Better Buses SY is asking people to join its plea to the government to change the system. In their petition, the campaign group say: "It is clear things cannot continue like this. Other City Regions have received millions to protect and improve bus services. We have had nothing. We demand fair treatment. We demand a funding deal to restore our bus network to the level in 2022 and transform it into a public service by and for the people of South Yorkshire." |

Alice Litman was a trans woman who died after more than 1000 days on the waiting list for gender-affirming care. Queer AF looked at Alice's inquest, the Litman family's calls for a recognition of the failings in Alice's care, and the state of trans healthcare across the country. Rowan Gavin quotes GenderGP, who said: "The story of Alice Litman’s death is about more than just long waiting times. It’s part of a bigger picture of discrimination and prejudice that trans people face throughout society." |
