Sharrow Lantern Carnival will once again light the streets this year on Sunday 1st April. Leading up to the festival procession itself, Creative Action Network Sheffield is hosting 20 free lantern making workshops for young and old alike throughout February and March. No previous experience is necessary, and all materials are provided, so all you need is a good idea for a lantern.

The first workshops take place on Saturday 4th February between 12pm and 4pm at the Old Junior School Hall on South View Road (small lanterns) and Highfield Trinity Church Hall (larger constructions).

Contact creativeactionnetwork@gmail.com if you want to volunteer to help run the workshops.

The Vault.

422 Abbeydale Road.

A new asset to the area, The Vault has already gained accreditations from locals, despite having only being open a mere six weeks. Located a couple of doors down from the recently refurbished Broadfield, the former HSBC bank now breathes new life as a creative space comprised of individual stalls and boutiques selling an assortment of vintage clothing and homewear, along with antique furniture and handmade arts and crafts.

On first impression, you really get a sense of the building’s past life. Still showcasing many of its original features, the charming, unconventional layout of the 100 year old building proves a perfect location for this new venture. Pioneer of the project Tracy said: “I’ve managed and owned creative shops and stalls before, but this place gives me more creative freedom... The area has a great selection of shops, and a fantastic art scene and I wanted to be part of that. The vaults were what caught my attention. They were just so quirky and I wanted to take advantage of that.”

Another great independent establishment for the city. Spaces are available to let from £40 per month.
